Welcome to Emu Spirit’s Blog and new website!

We are dedicated to bringing you the latest information on the benefits of Emu oil, current issues and topics in alternative health, and anything else we think will help your health and well being.

To kick things off we thought we’d start by answering one of the many questions we have received this week: Why are Essential Omega Fatty Acids good for you?

There is often a lot of confusion when it comes to understanding essential fatty acids. Essentially, Omega fatty acids help improve our health and allow us to maintain positive body function. These fatty acids, in the body, produce hormone-like substances which regulate bodily systems such as our immune system and blood-pressure regulation. The body can produce all but two Essential Fatty Acids (also known as EFA’s): Omega 3 and Omega 6, which can be found in plants and animal fats such as Emu Oil.

Omega 3 (also known as Linoleic Acid or LA acid), and Omega 6 (also known as Alpha-Linolenic acid or ALA) help to protect us from symptoms such as arthritis, inflammation, and skin conditions. Essential fatty acids assist the reduction of PMS, depression, and promotes healthy skin, hair and nails. Omega 3 and Omega 6 also promote a healthy heart.

Although Omega 9 isn’t considered an ‘essential fatty acid’ (due to the fact most of us can generate a moderate amount ourselves), Omega 9 can greatly benefit older people or those people suffering liver problems, who generally cannot produce a sufficient amount of Omega 9. Omega 9 generally helps to decrease the risk of coronary heart disease and diabetes.

If you already take Omega Fatty Acid supplements such as Fish Oil (Omega 3), you can also use this in conjunction with Emu oil and really see the benefits of what a healthy dose of Omega Fatty Acids can do for your well being.

In our upcoming posts, we’ll go over each Essential Omega Fatty Acid in more detail and find out exactly how they will best benefit you.

You mention omega 9 helping with liver problems. Having suffered from exzema for years and being told that it possibly has something to do with my liver, is this why Emu oil helps with the symptoms of exzema?
