Omega 6 – The Other Essential Fatty Acid

Sarah Schmidt - Monday, June 07, 2010

Emu oil contains naturally occurring Essential Fatty Acids Omega 3, 6, and 9. While we are most familiar with Omega 3 and its health benefits it seems that its little friend, Omega 6, is sometimes over looked.

The University of Maryland states that along with Omega-3 fatty acids, Omega-6 fatty acids play a crucial role in brain function as well as normal growth and development. Also known as polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs), they help stimulate skin and hair growth, maintain bone health, regulate metabolism, and maintain the reproductive system.

Omega 6 can be found in foods such as fish, whole grains and fruits, however sometimes we don’t get enough of our Omega’s from these foods if our diet is lacking. Supplementing your diet with extra Omega 6 can be most beneficial.

Much like Omega 3, Omega 6 is also great for inflammation such as arthritis and skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis and dermatitis. However studies have also shown that Omega 6 can help reduce high blood pressure, menopausal symptoms, and PMS.

Emu oil contains Omega 3, 6, and 9 and is one reason why Emu oil has such unique anti-inflammatory and healing properties.  If you’re looking to boost your immune system and general health and well being, try Emu oil daily. Emu oil can be taken internally (orally) and used topically.

More Essential Fatty Acids in your diet? Your body will thank you!
