It probably isn’t the first thing you think about when your pet has an itch, a bite or a scratch, but did you know that you can use Emu oil to treat your pet?

As an anti-inflammatory Emu oil is an excellent natural, safe and non-toxic product you can use to treat your pets Arthritis, Eczema, wounds, mites and bites, ear infections, burns – just about anything. In addition to Emu oil’s anti-inflammatory properties, Emu oil will also leave your pet with a thick, shiny and healthy coat.

Emu oil can be used on dogs, cats, horses and all other animals. After the Back Saturday bush fires in Victoria this year, many animals were left burnt and terribly wounded. Pam Cale and staff from Sleepy Hollow Wildlife Shelter in Tooradin used Emu Spirit Oil of Emu to treat 63 Koala’s, Kangaroo’s and Possums rescued from the fires. Most of the animals treated suffered burnt paws and tails. Sleepy Hollow used the Emu oil as a topic application directly onto the burns and noticed that Emu oil helped reduce swelling of the paws, reduced redness, and over the months since treatment, the animals’ burns have completely healed (photo’s coming soon). The last Koala rescued is marked for re-release very soon!

Dr. Wayne Backhouse, veterinarian, also uses Emu Spirit Oil of Emu of his animals. He has used Emu oil on his cat to treat her solar dermatitis and his horse for allergies resulting from ‘The Itch’ or ‘Queensland Itch’. To treat both animals he says that ‘anytime now that [the area] looks a bit raw, I put…Emu oil on it and it continues to improve.’[1]

You will notice with a topical application that your pet will lick the oil as soon as you put it on – Emu Spirit’s mascot and resident yelper, Bloke, is constantly licking his tummy every time we use Emu oil to treat his annoying itch (playing with ducks in the pond will do that!) and it doesn’t stay on his skin long. This is a good thing. By licking the oil, your pet is also receiving an internal application – much like you would if you were using Oil of Emu capsules. An internal application assists inflammation based conditions and will help attack the symptom from the inside out.

We recommend daily serves of Emu oil for your pet, especially if they have Arthritis. You can either rub Oil of Emu into their joints or affected areas (twice a day helps) or simply drizzle one to two teaspoons of Oil of Emu over food. They’ll never know they’re eating it.

Emu Oil has once again made its way onto television. Channel Nine’s What’s good for you aired a segment Does cold weather make arthritis worse? (June 10 2009) and featured Emu oil as a natural alternative treatment for arthritis and osteoarthritis.

Dr Cicuttini, head of rheumatology at the Alfred Hospital Melbourne, noted that ‘weather pressure and humidity are associated with a change in peoples’ [arthritic] symptoms…preventing injury is a key factor to [preventing arthritis].’[1]

But here’s the good news…Emu oil is also considered a reputable source of relief for arthritis. Dr Michael Whitehouse, from the therapeutics research unit at Griffith University, revealed results of his earlier studies of Emu oil and its treatment for arthritis: ‘[Emu oil] restores mobility…successfully treating pain, and this is what most arthritic sufferers wish to have.’[2]

And according to Dr Melanie Cameron from Victoria University (and the head researcher for Emu Spirit’s clinical trial into Emu oil and osteoarthritis in the hands) ‘…clinically…Emu oil reduces some of the signs of inflammation…Emu oil does contain essential fatty acids, which are involved in the inflammatory pathways.’[3]

Emu Oil can also treat pain associated with injury. Using either Arthritic and Muscular Rub (which has a nice warming effect on the muscle due to the blend of essential oils) or Oil of Emu (which can be used internally and topically), Emu oil will relieve pain, help reduce swelling and bruising, and help mobility, particularly if you have a joint injury.

This is fantastic news for arthritis sufferers and anyone searching for a natural therapy to relieve the pain, discomfort, and inflammation associated with arthritis and osteoarthritis.

We have found the best way to treat arthritis is by using Oil of Emu both internally and topically as this helps relieve inflammation from the inside while delivering pain relief more readily from a topical application.

The reason why Emu oil is such a great treatment for arthritis and osteoarthritis is due to Emu oil’s unique anti-inflammatory capabilities.
